ICIPE in Mbita
[wpvideo PstDOW38]Lunch and dinner were both okay, but I haven't been very hungry. In Nairobi, it was served for you and the portion sizes were large; here it's self-serve so I can get exactly what I can and will eat. The fruit was my favorite and I hope there's fruit every single day. Both places served very good meals! As you can see, the campus here is BEAUTIFUL. I thought Nairobi was nice, but Mbita is by far my favorite. It's much more peaceful, there's a school on the compound, it's fairly big, the people are very friendly, and it's located next to Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is shared by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania and it is stunning. The rooms here are so nice and cozy and I cannot wait to send pictures. My outlets work and my hot water works! Our rooms have back patios that are screened in to keep the bugs out and I can hear the waves crashing against the shore all day and all night. We're that close! I hope I can get on the water sometime while I'm here; it feels more like home. The weather here, by the way, is so wonderful. It was hot today, but I slept with my patio door open and it was awesome. Our tour guide, a man who has worked with Prof. Khan since the inception of push-pull in 1997, took us around the campus particularly to the areas surrounding push-pull which will help in our research. We got to see the animals! Seeing the animals on the side of the road on the way felt like home but it was nice to finally touch one. I included a video of my new friend :) Be on the lookout for more photos of the push-pull tour tomorrow. I'll let the photos do the talking for today. I'm exhausted (it's 2AM here), and I haven't felt good all day. I've probably slept over 6 hours in naps today and I'm still tired. I've been trying to keep up with the Miss Missouri and Miss Missouri's Outstanding Teen preliminary competition results but the time change has made that very difficult at times! Good luck to all of the wonderful young woman competing and hopefully I can join you next year.
