Those Shoes, by Maribeth Boelts
Those Shoes introduces a discussion about generosity, the conflict between altruism and selfishness, and about distributive justice.
The book is one of my favorites - while distributive justice and fairness of basic resources can result in difficult conversations about privilege, race, poverty, and hunger, it is imperative to start the conversation young and early.
The larger question posed in this book is how should goods be distributed among people? What is our goal for society? Is our goal equality of goods, or equality of opportunity?
For action steps, consider emptying your closet and donating items that you have that you no longer wear. These can be donated to your local thrift store or Salvation Army, and depending on the item, a Dress for Success chapter.
