Italy: Day 7 Florence and Bologna

While enroute to Bologna, our group had the opportunity to visit Florence and the famous Uffizi Gallery Museum. My favorite artist was probably Michelangelo, as he was one of the only artists that I recognized by name upon entering the museum. To be quite honest, most of the series/exhibits were way over my head in terms of their significance or artistic importance. My least favorite series was the hall highlighting Giotto and the 13th Century. It was so different from artwork that I have experienced in the past and wasn't as refined/polished as the others. It is important to see these works and experience them. It certainly helped me better appreciate our culture and history. To see the artwork, sculptures and statues in person was an experience in itself. I remembered hearing about the different artists and masterpieces in art class and history growing up, but to see them in person was such a surreal, unique experience.Florence was BEAUTIFUL and I wish we could have stayed longer there. It definitely seemed cleaner/less smelly than Rome, but was still a popular tourist destination. My favorite dining excursion happened while in Florence. Our waiters were so nice and I had a marinara pizza! I personally would have loved to spend more days in Florence and thought the overall vibe of Florence was much more modern than Rome.
