WFP Global Youth Institute: Final Day and Reflections
On the last and final day of the Global Youth Institute, students are given the opportunity to present their research and findings on how to end food insecurity to a panel of international experts."Human beings think that 99.9% of other people live the same as them, and 1% do something weird but really that's not the case. Less than 1% live like us everyday."One speaker highlighted on the importance of global competence in the workforce and adapting to others instead of always thinking that they need to do things our way; and perhaps that is the most important message that I take home after this weekend. As Americans, we expect others to learn English so that they can speak to us, we expect people to adapt to our way of life; but what if we adapted to theirs a little, too? As I go home this week, my goal is to develop a sense of global awareness and cultural competence through experiences and opportunities. Obviously I hope to receive one of the internships through either the Borlaug-Ruan International Internship program or the USDA Wallace-Carver program, or maybe even both one day! Please, if you are interested AT ALL in this incredible program, get in contact with me. I would love to help you and share my paper and experiences with you. It's hard to condense 3 days of education into blog posts, but I tried to cover the gist of the program to show you what it's about.Food fighting one day at a time!xoxo,Holly
